Minnie Driver Reveals the Dark Side of Hollywood

While an Oscar nomination is a bright side in an actor’s career, the recognition landed Minnie Driver in a dark place.

She've been there, done that: Minnie Driver saw the dark side of Hollywood.

During the height of her Good Will Hunting fame, for which she earned a 1997 Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination, Minnie Driver sank to some new lows.

“I definitely went a bit bonkers in my early 20s, when I got famous quickly. Bonkers in a way where I didn’t eat enough, I drank too much, smoked too many cigarettes, cried a lot and was very emotional.” Driver told the U.K.’s Stylist magazine in a recent interview.

The 42-year-old star revealed that she dropped to 98 pounds at the height of her emotionally fragile state. While her sister was the savior who pulled her out of the darkness, Minnie Driver blames Hollywood for putting her there.

“Hollywood is portrayed in this super glamorous way, but when I see pictures of actresses going off the rails, it doesn’t surprise me at all,” Driver pointed out.

The Return To Me actress is not the only one who has seen the dark side of Hollywood fame. Lindsay Lohan has been in and out of courtrooms for years, facing various charges stemming from theft, DUI and probation violation. And young celebrities like Kelly Osbourne, Aaron Carter, Demi Lovato and Stephanie Pratt have spent time in rehabilitation programs to battle a variety of issues.

Actually, this dark reality for many of Hollywood’s fresh faces, is what Driver wants to expose in her forthcoming autobiography.

“I want to tell it from the view of someone who was normal, but whose life became abnormal.” Driver claimed.

It's not everything bright and shiny in Hollywood.
