Why Should the Wedding Ring be Worn on the Fourth Finger?

What’s so special about the fourth finger of somebody’s left hand?

Everything happens for a reason: Check out why the wedding ring is placed on the fourth finger.

That’s where a man’s gaze goes to if he wants to find out if the girl he has his eye on is free or spoken for. And that’s where another woman’s eye goes to for very much the same reason as well as to take a look at just how expensive a ring is on that finger.

But have you ever wondered why the wedding ring happened to be placed on the fourth finger and not on any other.

Well, one Chinese legend gives one beautiful and most of all a reasonable explanation, that goes like this:

  • Your thumbs represents your parents;
  • Second (Index) fingers represents your siblings;
  • Middle fingers represents your-Self;
  • Fourth (Ring) fingers represents your life partner;
  • & the Last (Little) finger represents your children.

Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together – back to back.

Secondly, open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb – tip to tip. As shown in the figure below:

The wedding ring legend revealed: Please try this out!

Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents). They will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.

Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings). They will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.

Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children). They will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down.

Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT. They won’t separate because Husband & Wife have to remain together all their lives – through thick and thin!!

Isn’t it a lovely theory?
