Katie Holmes Steps Out After Split from Tom Cruise

Katie Holmes has made her first public appearance since filing for divorce from her hubby Tom Cruise last week. Actually, she was photographed out in New York City on Monday, as she was leaving the Parsons School for Design – the place where she was filming a guest appearance for the next season of Lifetime’s Project Runway: All Stars.

Life goes on!

The actress, 33, who filed for divorce from the movie star, 49, wore a navy and black shirt-dress, soft make-up and a slick ponytail for the outing, but still one accessory was noticeably absent – her wedding ring.

It’s the first time the actress has appeared in public without her sparkling five-carat engagement diamond and band since marring the Top Gun star five years ago.

Katie, who was said to have done “wonderful” at the taping despite her personal drama – left Cruise “devastated and heartbroken,” a source told PEOPLE of the breakup. “He had no idea this was coming.” While Tom was ignorant of the upcoming split, Scientology did most of the “dirty” job in their separation.

Meanwhile, as the drama, called “Katie and Tom”, unfolds, Cruise has been continuing filming his latest movie, Oblivion, in Iceland. There he will celebrate his 50th birthday, single and sad.
