The meteor blazing over Russia over the weekend was caught in dramatic fashion by many cameras.

The meteor streaked across the sky above Chelyabinsk, in Russia’s Ural Mountains with a booming series of explosions.

Over 1000 people were hurt, mostly injured by glass from explosions. Luckily no deaths have been reported.

The meteor also blazed across the Internet, featuring many jaw-dropping videos and Twitter posts.

In  order to combat police corruption, many Russian drivers have dashboard cameras installed in their cars, so there were plenty of videos that captured the spectacular meteor blaze.

This video  features the terrifying sound of the meteor’s sonic boom shockwave, breaking windows and setting off car alarms.

For your information, a meteor is a particle from an asteroid or comet that burns up in the atmosphere. So, if it hits the ground it’s a meteorite, and if it just stays in space it’s a meteoroid.

“There was panic. People had no idea what was happening. Everyone was going around to people’s houses to check if they were OK,” Chelyabinsk resident Sergey Hametov told the Associated Press.

“We saw a big burst of light, then went outside to see what it was, and we heard a really loud thundering sound.”

The meteor exploded and broke up, landing at three different impact points in the Chelyabinsk region.
